Perth Airport – Domestic Terminal 1

PlayOn

Brief

Perth Airport is Australia’s Western hub, operating 24/7 as a critical transportation facility. PlayOn were tasked with creating a world-class kids’ play space that offers families a place to relax, connect, and have fun while waiting for their flights. The goal was to design a playground where children can explore, engage in physical activity, and tap into their creativity through social and imaginative play.

Key Considerations

  • Target Audience: Children aged 2-10 years
  • Physical Activity: Slides, platforms, ropes, and climbing elements
  • Inclusive Play: Tactile, interactive, and educational features (no digital)
  • Family Connection: A space for families to gather, relax, and enjoy before traveling
  • Safety: Meets the highest global safety standards
  • Design Aesthetic: Aligned with Perth Airport’s new brand, reflecting the local character of Perth and Western Australia. The design is low-maintenance, easily accessible for cleanliness, and includes partially enclosed or gated areas with an interactive wall.

Connectivity – Let’s Play WA

The playground was thoughtfully designed to balance active and passive play, offering an inclusive experience for children of all abilities.

Key features include:

  • An iconic climbing tower
  • Jungle ropes
  • Talking tubes
  • A custom, double-story stainless steel tube slide
  • Custom, interactive activity panels featuring local WA flora and fauna with memory and matching games
  • Softfall safety flooring designed in the vibrant colours of a Western Australian sunset

We pride ourselves on blending entertainment with learning and development. The space encourages children to use their imagination while exploring, playing, and learning. Simultaneously, it provides a restful spot for families and caregivers. Through thoughtful design and collaboration, we’ve created a best-in-class destination that is not only a playground but also a place of respite at Perth Airport’s T1 Domestic terminal.
